ENTER THE DRAGON!

Next Monday the Dragons Back 5 day Race starts to cross the Spine of Wales

A race that can probably lay claim to being one of the planet’s hardest challenges – a five-day, 200-mile traverse along the spine of Wales.

Self-navigating through daily stages ranging from 37 to 45 miles, around 100 competitors from 14 countries will climb approx 45,000 feet during the event, which starts at Conwy Castle in north Wales and finishes at Carreg Cennen Castle in the south.

The Dragon’s Back Race has been talked of in hushed tones amongst the ultra and fell-running communities since its first (and only!) running in 1992 – an event made famous by the victory of Helene Diamantides and Martin Stone, beating many of the world’s top endurance runners and several teams of Paras.

In the 2012 event, Racekit-sponsored Nicky Spinks will be competing – hoping to continue the form which saw her break the women’s Bob Graham Record just a few weeks ago.

Updates on all the competitors should appear on the Dragons Back Website.
